I can't remember any presidential speech (African Presidents) which does not include tackling of poverty, unemployment, crime, HIV/AIDS and corruption, if there is any then probably i didnt either listen to it or watch it or i was concentrating on something else. Our leaders are ever preaching things that they don't do, they are not leading by an example at all, or how many leaders have lead by examples? How are they supposed to tackle these issues if they are not making any efforts to improve national situations (or have they tried and failed?). I am speaking under corrections, employment rate is going down instead of creating more job opportunities for the citizens (although citizens are also supposed to be innovative and creative = Entrepreneurs), how are they tackling poverty is development is still failing to reach rural areas where the majorities are? How are they supposed to fight corruption if they are the ones corrupted (eating up donors and tax-payers monies)?

What are saying here, if our leaders are rich and there people sleeping under bridges, in ghettos, with no shelter, with no food, no clean water facilities, no toilets? If one has to analyze it, what does it means? Help me people to understand our economic development systems in our Countries? Are they trying to improve the livelihood of the people, the quality of life, exactly how? Do you guys know that Vision 2030 can be an impossible vision with all these happening? Vision 2030 will take Namibia from the present into the future, how for Christ sake? This is just taking us back into colonial years. It will be proper to call it Vision 1900, which is already gone.

Our leaders are sleeping, sleeping in their leadership seats. They should start spending money on the development of their countries other than them and their family getting rich and rich while our people are getting poor and poorer.

This is unbelievable.

i agrre with almost what you said. and i think they're trying & failing coz they dont try hard
African people dont respect time, its delays everytime. ministry of education not paying students
on time or not even paying for their tutuion fees. in a developed country the secretary of education
could be fired for that. the ministry of education is a total failure. 20% grade 12 pass rate?
the worst in the world probablly

And us Namibians all we do is talk, drink and have fun waiting for 2030 so that manna will
fall from heaven, vision 2030 is not wat the government will do, but what we'll do to better this
country. science and technology, food self suficiency, natinal security and a lot of things
that need to be done. all leaders around the world have fat pockets, lets not criticize
with a sense of jealousy. i only have problem with leaders who are rich coz they're stealing
lets not just count on the governemnt to realize 2030, the government is just there to guide us
but 2030 will be realized by every individual out there, i can only blame ther government for
not providing us with funds to do wat we can to realize 2030, but i dont expect GRN to realize
2030 for me

Very interesting topic and I am fully agree with you guys and my wish is for God (since he is only with power) to enter our leader heart throughout Africa, for them to rule with the interests of the people at heart but not that of their self greediness and enrichment. On Chinese its true that they are so many here and slowly but sure become one part of Namibian community which I don't know how it will be called. I don't think 5 if not 10% of them will eventually go back to their home land as they find Namibia as place to be with GRN siding them too much. On other hand they are developing the country by building in modern infrastructure but at the same time the are destroying it with the selling of very poor quality material and not banking in the country.

I cant' wait "Dai" to lead us into that demonstration.lol.., my poster are already printed.

Dai
you can read here how some African leaders are trying, but this is not a reliable source
since its written by westerners, but the story has some truth in it. pity our politicians
in Namibia dont qualify for African headlines, does that mean they're weak in comparison
with other African leaders?

kachokwe if you consider the chinese buildings modern than I dont know cos if your talking about the roach malls they built @ oshikango that is not the definition of development, or the GRN buildings that are falling apart AA, African leaders are the ones to blame for all ills on the continent it didnt start with them it started with the first chiefs that sold their people into slavery for red wine and mirrors this my friend is a mind set that needs to be shaken off Africans will always need a master whether russians amercans or chinese to survive as the chiefs are still selling their people for red wine and mirrors

China and other imperialists are the ones killing African economies. read this articulate extracts
from the namibian newspaper about how China is killing Namibia local businesses

Chinese

more than a hundred new trucks which foreign businessmen recently imported so that they no longer needed the services of local truckers and transport companies to get their goods from the Walvis Bay harbour to Angola.

The NCCI claims that these trucks were also used to penetrate the local market.
The Namibian has learnt that the trucks were imported from China by Chinese businessmen.
China is virtually dumping these vehicles in Namibia, cutting the operational costs of
Chinese businessmen and leaving the local transport sector without the power to compete
the paper’s source alleged.. The increasing presence of Chinese businesses in Namibia
snatching business opportunities from locals, has for long been a thorn in the NCCI’s side.
Relations between the local business sector and the Chinese in the North are so strained
that the Namibian entrepreneurs have called for a boycott of Chinese businesses in the region.
Several studies by the Labour Resource and Research Institute (LaRRI) have revealed illegal labour
practices by the Chinese, and the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) have consistently
voiced their concern with the status quo.
The NCCI’s latest statement refers only to a “few countries”, but Shaanika admitted that
China was once again included among the culprits. The Chamber is not only unhappy with the trucking
incident. There are a number of new small-scale retailing outlets throughout the country
offering low quality products and replacing long existing locally-owned businesses,”
it said in the statement. Shaanika said these businesses are threatening the local small
and medium enterprise (SME) sector. LaRRI last year said that there were more than 500 Chinese
retailers registered with the Ministry of Trade and Industry. However, it pointed out that the majority
of Chinese businesses are not registered.. The Institute further said that these businesses pay no import
duties and taxes, and hardly use local banks. They also mostly deal in cash, which makes it difficult to
find out what their profit is and tax them on it, LaRRI said.
“The cost to the economy is astronomical,” Shaanika said.
This is especially worrying as the latest official unemployment figure is 51,2 per cent.
“We are concerned that the type and level of foreign direct investment which Namibia is attracting, is not helpful to our efforts to diversify and grow the economy at a faster pace as well as to create jobs,” the NCCI statement said.
“It is an open secret that such investments are made by private entrepreneurs from a few countries with support by governments of such countries in many instances. However, the types of businesses established through such investments are not supportive of our national industrialisation and economic diversification agenda,” the Chamber said.
The NCCI wants Government to “properly screen” foreign direct investments and “only approve such investments which are clearly supporting our economic development priorities, rather than replacing existing Namibian-owned businesses”.
“In our view, some businesses such as small and medium scale retailing, road transport, cleaning services, small to medium construction services, security services, small-scale mining and catering services are some of the types of businesses which could be reserved for Namibian entrepreneurs.”
The Chamber said whereas Namibia should welcome foreign investors as far as possible, the country should be focused on what it would like to gain out of such investments.
“We are calling for an urgent dialogue with the Government on this matter so that the concerns of our members on this issue are addressed conclusively,” the NCCI said.

this is all true the only problem even though you have screening process is that 1001 TEKO trading companies will open, once the chinese have infiltrated your country they are like a cocrach infestation very difficult to erradicate

Not difficult to eradicate, they dont have permant residency or work permit
the governement should just forbid extenstion of Visa and work permit offered to Chinese

they are killing local businesses, they're not banking in Namibia, they're not sponsoring
local events, these people are our enemies, they just smile but deep inside they're laughing
at us for being generous with tenders.they must be prohibited from buying lands, they must rent houses
not buying land to settle for ever. all tenders should be for Namibians and when there's no Namibian
company that can complete the project succefully then that's when a foreigner should be called in
and these foreigner business people shouldn't import things like trucks coz we have companies like
TransNamib that can offer them such service and our government will benefit. dont be suprised if you
see Chinese bringing their own trains and airplanes in Namibia, till they open their own bank, hospital
and more. these Chinese look calm and peaceful but in their minds they're devil, i see their true colours

No Doubt MMB

But when u have ministry of Home affairs that accepts bribes left right and center that wont help squat, They do not have namibia's interests at heart, thats why they even wanna take the bread out of the taxi drivers mouths at oshikango by providing free transport from the border to their mega roach malls, how inconsiderate are you if thats the way you conduct business, their main hustle though is the US$ that is in angola you wont believe it but angolas US$ reserve is running low why cos the chinese are shipping all the money out in suitcases as is the case with drug mules normally if you catch one 100 go free so to what extent are they laundering money out of namibia?
